Welcome to Boltitis - yet another blog written by an unqualified individual who will most certainly spew random diatribes about anything and everything (in this case mostly Charger related, although I can't guarantee that you won't find me going off on crazy tangents from time to time). Ain't the interweb grand? Where else can one publicly share their innermost thoughts and feelings without fear of instant humiliation? Hot damn! Gotta love online anonymity. Anyway, I digress.
Although the title "Boltitis" seems fairly self-explanatory to me, I suppose there may be a few of you out there wondering what the hell it means. Well, I'll tell you. Boltitis is defined in the dictionary of Me as "the constant pain and agony felt by any life long San Diego Chargers fan, due to consistent pathetic performances on and off the field, and in some cases, biblical size let downs." Imagine Moses and his peoples' 40 day and 40 night trek through the desert ending in the revelation that god wasn't real....OUCH. That's pretty much how 14-2 season and subsequent 2006 Divisional Playoff loss to the Patriots felt, and that sort of thing happens on a regular basis here in "Title-Less Town." Sports tend to be addicting, though, especially when you're married and need something to distract you, so you keep coming back for more. It's the whole, "Thank you sir, may I please have another" syndrome, and damn is it senseless. I've actually stopped trying to rationalize why I keep coming back for more, because there just aren't any logical answers. I mean, seriously. What else in life can cause this much pain and disappointment, yet still have me and countless other fans coming back time and again? Nothing, that's what. Well, maybe crack, but that's a subject for another blog.
So this blog is essentially going to be a running diary of my pain as a Chargers fan. Don't come here expecting pages and pages of factual content and statistics; there's encyclopedias and 'real' sports websites for that. I shoot from, and in some cases at, the hip. All I can promise you is honest reaction and commentary on one of the most torturous life passions there is....the San Diego Chargers. You will either find it funny, boring or just plain ugly. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if at least one person reads for no other reason than because they like watching a good train wreck, but hey, I'm willing to be that train. That's how much I love you. Remember that, or write it down. Until next time...
Mahalo,
